Census shows that by the year 2050, there will be more than 600,000 living centenarians in America. Since the life expectancy of common American is only 76 for men and 81 for women, people, most especially baby boomers, are seeking ways to maintain longevity and keeping productivity of life in general as they try to reach their centennial era.

It is interesting to know that 3,100 of American’s centenarians reside in Florida, 500 of them resides in Collier County. Florida’s tropical weather must have something to do with the increased longevity of the residents. However, University of Rochester found a more concrete foundation people may used as guidelines towards the goal of reaching 100 years old and beyond.

Start young. Cliché as it may sound but prevention is really better than cure. Start by eating well and stay physically active. Your old body will need all the nutrients it can get during the early years and by staying fit diseases, which are associated with aging, are essentially prevented. Studies show that by staying mentally and socially active, people are less likely to decline physically, emotionally and mentally.

Having the sense of purpose pushes a person to keep on going. Furthermore, right attitude begets positive outlook in life, which is also one of the key ingredients to keep life moving forward.
